REVIEW! "OVER YOUR DEAD BODY"
A SPEED BUMP OF THRILLS...
Coincidentally, the author uses the word "Passive" to describe the voice of his main character which was my first impression as I read the intro. However the pace picks up and the story comes to life after reading through the first chapter. I was in a real life family setting preparing for the New Year's Eve celebration along with the Price family. The aroma of baked turkey wafted into my nose and awakened my senes. I invisioned clear mugs of eggnog flowing freely.
The story flowed nicely and stayed its course keeping me captivated and intrigued. However, the pace slowed a little in the middle where it seemed the author was anxious to get on with his own prose and seemed to rush through it. As a result, with just an accusation, character Janelle's attitude seemed almost unjustifiable thus making her behavior somewhat unbelievable. If Over Your Dead Body was meant to be a thriller, the story failed to build to a climax and instead rolled over it like you would a speed bump in the road. The events just seemed to happen. HOWEVER, as I continued to read, the protagonist found his voice again and I was more intrigued. As Preston's character took a walk farther onto the dark side, I couldn`t put the book down. I had to follow his murderous rampage all the way through to the end and all I can say is, Author DAVID L. YOU DARE LEAVE ME HANGING THIS WAY!? What happens next??? There must be a sequel! (smile).
Besides several formalities, Over Your Dead Body was a pretty good read!
